Augie and Laura Aviza standing in front of The Village Market - A Xerox photo from the Chicago Tribune of the owners Augie and Laura Aviza standing in front of The Village Market. The Village Market, the tall two story building across the street from the current (2025) Post Office, is the oldest commercial building in the village. Its bricks were said to have come from the Cloes brickyard, located in the Birch Road area. This building was built for the new Helming's Grocery Store and Meat Market, which replaced an earlier frame building at the same location, that had been destroyed by fire, located on northwest corner of Scranton Avenue and Walnut Avenue, today 24 East Scranton Avenue.
