Description |
Color photograph of the Village Market 2007. Building is the oldest commercial building in Lake Bluff and is in the Uptown Historic District. Building was erected about 1900 by Charles Helming and always housed a grocery store until 2010. The building, located at 24 East Scranton Avenue, was restored to original facade in 2006. Sold to a new owner in 2010, and opened Wisma selling prepared foods. The Village Market, the tall two story building across the street from the current (2025) Post Office, is the oldest commercial building in the village. Its bricks were said to have come from the Cloes brickyard, located in the Birch Road area. This building was built for the new Helming's Grocery Store and Meat Market, which replaced an earlier frame building at the same location, that had been destroyed by fire, located on northwest corner of Scranton Avenue and Walnut Avenue, today 24 East Scranton Avenue. |
