8. A timeline for the Village Market - A timeline for the Village Market from Elmer Vliet's book "Lake Bluff the First 100 Years". This document is incomplete, showing a timeline from 1871 when Conrad and Minnie Helming arrived in Rockland (Lake Bluff) in 1871 to 1902 when Adolph Rosenthal dies in 1902. The Village Market, the tall two story building across the street from the current (2025) Post Office, is the oldest commercial building in the village. Its bricks were said to have come from the Cloes brickyard, located in the Birch Road area. This building was built for the new Helming's Grocery Store and Meat Market, which replaced an earlier frame building at the same location, that had been destroyed by fire, located on northwest corner of Scranton Avenue and Walnut Avenue, today 24 East Scranton Avenue.

9. Charles Helming - Charles Helming, appointed in 1912 and served for over 30 years as Fire Chief. Upon his retirement, he retained the title of Honorary Chief until his death in 1963. He and his family lived at 210 North.

Durable Goods - the Village Market - An article in the Chicago Tribune Magazine titled Durable Goods, about the 110+ year old Village Market, which opened in a wood store in 1888 as Rosenthal and Helming's Grocery and Meat Market. The article shows photos of early Village Market. The new owners, Sue and Rob Douglass, renovated the building and filled its shelves with dry, candy, fruits as well as prepared foods. The article features a 1902 view of the building located at 24 East Scranton Avenue, with photos of the old post office on the left as well as a photo of owner Charles Helming standing in front of the building. 18. Lake Bluff Fire Fighters Village Hall Policeman - Black & White photograph of the Village's police and fire vehicles. This photograph was also enlarged and used in the Vliet museum's exhibits. A note on back of card states that the motorcycle was the Villages first motorized vehicle. Before 1929 the Police Dept. used a bicycle. The policeman on the motorcycle is Eugene Spaid and the firefighter in the white coat and fire hat is Chief Charles Helming.

Building was erected about 1900 by Charles Helming and always housed a grocery store until 2010. The building, located at 24 East Scranton Avenue, was restored to original facade in 2006. Sold to a new owner in 2010, and opened Wisma selling prepared foods.
