1. 300 East Prospect - 300 East Prospect Avenue. This was one of the properties sold in 1877 by Solomon Thatcher for $200, according to the deed. It was one of the narrow houses with 2 x 6 solid hardwood floors. Originally board and batten, it is now stucco and has had numerous alterations, an enclosed porch, a third floor, etc. Clara Rykoff, who operated a tearoom at Oak and Center, lived here until 1944.

Additional information about the property is available at the Lake Bluff History Museum. 300 East Prospect Avenue Built as a camp meeting cottage around 1890. The house was purchased in 1910 by Eugene and Clara Rycoff. They lived there for over 30 years. The last remodeling was done in 1995 by Gloria Dougherty, (the Cottage Gardener) and her husband. Clara Rycoff operated a restaurant / antique store at the corner of Center and Oak. The Lake Forester - The Lake Forester - In a section called WAY BACK WHEN FORTY YEARS AGO : 1899 At a meeting of the Lake Bluff village board Tuesday evening, bids were opened for the construction of 1,000 feet of Sheridan Drive through the Close [Cloes] property. The contract was awarded to William Hoffman for $425. Work will begin at once and another section of the great highway which is to connect Chicago and Milwaukee will be completed within a couple of months. William Henderson was awarded the contract for the construction of Sheridan Road through the Ferry property. Mr. Ballard of Libertyville has the contract for building the bridge over the ravine. Elizabeth Bibb / Bubb is taking part in the Ferry Hall Pageant. Henry Weber of Lake Bluff, WGN Mutual musical director and newly appointed director of the Chicago City Opera, is the first American to hold this post with the opera. Mrs. Walter Barnes, 420 Sunrise Avenue, hosted a meeting for Lake Bluff Infant Welfare. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bieger will move from their home on Moffett Road to 206 East Sheridan Place, the house recently vacated by the Chloral Bennet family. Edith Miller Redmond, daughter of Mrs. Mae Miller of Lake Bluff and William Waters, brother of Mrs. Warren Miller, were married in Iowa. They will be at home at 320 East North Avenue.
