4. 1933 Annual Report - 1933 Annual Report details the Health and Sanitation Committee's report of the community's health is at an all time high, despite thecase of whooping cough that spread about the 1st grade. The Committee decided to work with the Women's Club to improve sanitary conditions. Additionally, the Fire Committee reports that the department has responded to 15 calls during the fiscal year, purchased equipment for the betterment of the department, and starting of first-aid certification classes.

The photo shows the interior of the building, with the original brick west wall and white aluminum sided addition in the rear. The article, see Doc 4056 in this Catalog, states that "A construction project next to the two-story concrete building at 37 East Center Avenue may have weakened the west wall, causing it to buckle. One of the businesses that was displaced was Pegg Ann Kompany, owned and managed by Kurt Gronau and Peg Gronau.

11. A copy of a photo or postcard of the Merchant block - A copy of a photo or postcard of the Merchant block, named for its owner, J. C Merchant. Dating to about 1902, it was built with lumber from the Grace Methodist Church that was torn down because it had been erected in the public right-of-way. The Merchant Block was destroyed by fire in 1917, even though the fire department was located next door in the village hall.

22. Building Wall Tumbles in Lake Bluff - An article in the Chicago Tribune titled Building Wall Tumbles in Lake Bluff, with a photo from a crane of the destroyed building on East Scranton Avenue. The article says:" A construction project next to the two-story concrete building at 37 East Scranton Avenue may have weakened the west wall, causing it to buckle" related by Police Chief William Gallagher. "Lake Bluff architect and property owner Robert Ruggles wanted to replace a parking lot with a new office building next to the damaged building." The residents and tenants of the building found temporary housing, including Peg Ann Kompany, owned and managed by Kurt Gronau and Peg Gronau. No one was injured in the collapse, which occurred shorty after midnight. The article contains two photos of the building. See Photo 4024 in this Catalog
