1. A reprint of a 1898 photo of 17 year old Esther Rickert, later Esther Stone, and a group of young women on a bridge. Possibly Lake Bluff, as Esther spent a summer here. The young women were members of the Crystal Dramatic Club of Chicago (west side). In 1912 Esther Stone, a newly widowed mother started, a real estate company with Harold Hill that become Hill and Stone in their hometown of Wilmette. Hill left the business four years later and Esther continued the business, that would later become Hill and Stone Insurance, which is run by George and his wife Patricia Stone.

26. Four ladies on a bridge - Sepia photograph of four women on a bridge. Reverse side: "Mrs. Wintermeyer, large lady at center of bridge and her daughter Elsa. W. Wesselhoeft, near Artesian Lake." Artesian Lake was once a ten acre lake formed in 1883 by the Lake Bluff Camp Meeting Association for summer recreational use; Swan island was used for picnics. A concrete dame was built west of Evanston and the lake was fed by an artesian well drilled near the present fire station. However, an underpass from the train station was completed in 1904, when the spur line for the North Shore Electric Line to Libertyville was built. There was an obvious problem: This underpass was several feet lower than Artesian Lake and needed a story water drain. Also in 1904, the dam that formed the lake burst, thus draining the lake. By this time the Camp Meeting era was long gone and the lake had outlived its usefulness. For over 30 years it was a refuse dump until the Park District filled it in 1938 and created Artesian Park.

Lake County Star - Matinee Idol Captures Crowd Lake Forest Plan Commission Looks to Future Lake Bluff West Terrace Residents Greet Board - there was discussion concerning the problem of Transporting East and West Terrace children to the Lake Bluff School. Mrs. G. Neal was in favor of having a bus service for the Terrace and that a traffic signal should be installed at the intersection of Green Bay Road and highway Route 176. Mrs. Neal said the school board will not service this area with a bus because the stated tonnage on the Green Bay Road bridge is four tons and a school bus with a full load averages eight tons. The board said they were looking into a traffic light and agreed to have the bridge made. Recover Stolen Cars in Pieces. A smashed black 1955 Chevy belonging to Lake Bluff's Don Able was discovered by the Lake Forest police on Lake Road. Grace Methodist has church vacation school Bruce Gridley of 223 East Scranton Avenue selected by DAR because of his excellent scholarship record.
