Her first book, "The Gentle Albatross" was acquired by the library in 1976. On the reverse is a photo of Foote-Smith shown with librarian Ann Beck at a table in the library. Irene Schultz at home in Lake Bluff - An undated Chicago Tribune article on Lake Bluff writer, Irene Schultz. Irene wrote for the reluctant reader and, as a teacher for 30 years, she knew how do to just that. After over 100 rejections, Irene's husband, Jerome Schultz, suggested she publish them herself. Thus was born Black and White and Read All Over Press. Later, Addison-Wesley Publishing Company published 12 of her novels. Two obituaries for Irene.
