3. 345 E. Prospect William Vanderkloot Residence - Sepia photograph of 345 East Prospect Avenue South West corner of Prospect and Gurney, This Parrie Style house was built in 1911 by Adrian Vanderkloot, a Village trustee. It replaced an earlier smaller structure that burned in 1909. His son, William Vanderkloot, an engineer, designed this house with stucco siding and a Dutch tile roof and moved here when his father died. William was Village President from 1917-1923. The long narrow windows may have been a later addition. William owned a steel mill in Chicago (Halsted Steel Company). His son, William Jr., studied aviation and used to buzz down Prospect Avenue much to the terror of the local residents. He joined the Canadian Royal Ferry Command in 1939 and flew bombers to England. According to the book, The Man Who Flew Churchill by Bruce West, it was William Jr. who flew Sir Winston Churchill on a secret mission to Moscow in 1943.

15. J. S. Sosman's Residence - Sepia photo of Joseph S. Sosman's residence, 610 East Center Avenue. According to Ladies' Home Journal, June 1902, "This house has 10 rooms. A feature of the interior finish is that the walls are covered with canvas and are papered. The ceilings are made of canvas stretched on frames. From the plans by Sidney Lovell." Sosman lived here, as listed in 1905 Directory. In the 1913 Directory, Sosman is listed as a scenic artist. Stewart Reed Brown, general counsel for The Produce Reporter Co. 938 State & Lake Building Chicago, owned 610 Center in 1926.
