Esther Rickert - A reprint of a 1898 photo of 17 year old Esther Rickert, later Esther Stone, and a group of young women and a man in front of a log with a pick, shovel, and an ax with a young child sitting in front. Most likely the photo was taken in Lake Bluff, where Esther spent a summer with her friends. The young women were members of the Crystal Dramatic Club of Chicago (west side). In 1912 Esther Stone, a newly widowed mother, started a real estate company with Harold Hill that became Hill and Stone in their hometown of Wilmette. Hill left the business four years later and Esther continued the business, that would later become Hill and Stone Insurance, which is run by George and his wife Patricia Stone.

In 1912 Esther Stone, a newly widowed mother, started a real estate company with Harold Hill that became Hill and Stone in their hometown of Wilmette. 16. If a Chimney Falls in a Bluff ... Does it Make a Sound? - The article If a Chimney Falls in a Bluff ... Does it Make a Sound? written by Adrienne Fawcett, tells how a 16-foot brick chimney, fell one night after standing on the Lake Michigan bluff for over 100 years. The chimney belong to the home of A. K. Stearn's, who purchased 7 acres of land from Ben and Ida Cloes in 1905. The article states that in 1948, after Stearns's death, erosion was so bad that his home was very near the bluff. It stood empty for a number of years and was eventually destroyed by fire, except for the chimney. Another house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was built to the south of the Stearns house, which was also later destroyed. \The property was later subdivided into three lots.
