Janet Wallace Ullmann was born June 23, 1905 to Presbyterian missionary parents in Saltillo, Mexico, where both parents, William and Mary Wallace, ran a school. As a result of the Mexican Revolution, the Ullmann family left Mexico to live in Palo Alto, California. Janet attended Stanford University and graduated from the University of Chicago in 1927. Janet and her husband Stuart Ullmann were civil rights activists who corresponded with Martin Luther King, Jr. Janet is also the author of The Brass Bed. The Museum also has a short video interview between Gil Curren and Janet.

Hemingway says : " We've been in America since January 1930 in Key West - Wyoming - and the hospital and I am so sorry to have missed you in Paris." Five obituaries for Janet dated 2001; and a write-up from the Lake Forester for May 2, 1935 about the purchase of land at 243 East Witchwood Lane. A Xerox an undated article about Janet plan to travel on a peace mission to Nicaragua, following in her grandfather and father steps; both men were missionaries. Janet is also author of the book The Brass Bed. The Museum also has a short video interview between Gil Curren and Janet.

4. Lake Forest 8 - Lake Forest 8. Harlan Home. Built for Ullmann. The old photos are from the Harlan Family Album and were scanned for Museum. The Museum doesn't hold the album. Possibly Ullmann, as Stuart and Janet Ullmann lived in Lake Forest before they built their a house at 243 East Witchwood Lane in 1937.

Mrs. Howard Bushee of 235 East Prospect Avenue, Mrs. Harmon Woodworth of 126 Ravine Forest Drive, Mrs, Eugene Binder of 315 East Woodland Road, Mrs. H. Beyer of 515 East Scranton Avenue, Mrs. Walter Hall of 503 Simpson Avenue, Mrs. R. Munkers of 121 East Witchwood Lane, and Mrs. Frank Link of 622 Ravine Avenue all held a party for the Parent Teacher Association. Mrs. Link later gave a review of the life of Frances Willard.

10. The Lake Forester - The Lake Forester - LAKE BLUFF SCOUTS HOLD HONOR COURT; ROBERT MCCLORY PRESIDES Mrs. Maurice Mandeville, 600 East Scranton Avenue, held a meeting for the Garden Club. LAKE BLUFF PUBLIC LIBRARY - a lovely snow scene taken at the Moffett Road bridge has been framed and donated to the library by Alfred Bowman. Pasteur preventative treatment against rabies is being given to Northa Vliet, five year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Vliet, as a result of being bitten on the cheek by a stray cat she was petting. KEN HARLAN IS PLEDGE TO COLLEGE GARRICK CLUB - Kenney Harlan, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Harlan, 626 East Scranton Avenue, was pledged to the Garrick Club, dramatics organization at Lake Forest College.
