Letters from Daniel Riley McMaster - Letters from Daniel Riley McMaster (1) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Russell Baker enclosing a portion of the official record of the Lake Bluff Zoning Commission (2) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Elmer Vliet clarifying a letter between himself and Mr. Kingsley. (3) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Fred Fisher enclosing a copy of the Illinois Plan Commission Act. (4) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to James E. Payton letting him know the abstract of title and original survey for the Vanderkloot Subdivision were left at his house. (5) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Charles A. Hummer enclosing the plat of the Green Bay Road Highlands Subdivision. (6) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster To Ernest Olsen asking if he would be returning the copy of the map of the Subdivisions which McMaster had initially borrowed from Charles Hummer. Additionally, McMaster enclosed two copies of the Resolution and Recommendations passed by the Plan Commission so Olsen can forward a copy to Jacob Crane. McMaster states that the Resolution has an error and that he is not very satisfied with them. (7) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Philip D. Armour detailing a request made by Orrie J. McCombs that McMaster forward Armour a copy of the Report and Recommendations which the Plan Commission formulated for presentation to the Board of Trustees of the Village of Lake Bluff. Additionally, it was requested for McMaster to enclose a copy of Jacob Crane's letter about the matter. McMaster then asks if Armour has any suggestions. (8) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Orrie J. McCombs stating McCombs may wish to send a copy of Jacob Crane Letter to Philip Armour and other members of the Commission, therefore McMaster has enclosed two copies. (9) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Jacob Crane stating he has received his letter. (10) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to the County Zoning Commission asking if the Interim County Ordinance copies are available for distribution. (11) Letter from Daniel Riley McMaster to Edward J. Hughes asking to receive a copy of the Plan Commission Act laws of 1921, page 20, if available in pamphlet form.

  17. Letters Regarding Liquor Ordinance - Letters Regarding Liquor Ordinance 1) Letter to Charles Hummer regarding enclosing a copy of the State Beer Law and a copy of the Waukegan Ordinance and proposed Springfield Ordinance. It mentions that there is some opposition to permitting the consumption of beer into the ordinance and hopes that despite this it can still be put into the ordinance. Additionally, the letter talks about people obtaining both local and state ordinances and restricting the sale of such goods from certain areas. 2) Letter from Elmer Vliet, Chairman of the Ordinance Committee, to A. D. McLarty, Secretary of the Illinois Municipal League, stating the Village has a desire for the permit of sale of beer in Lake Bluff, but forbid the consumption of it on the premises where it was sold, therefore Vliet asks for suggestions or model ordinances which the League may have prepped in regards to this type of legislation. Vliet also asks what kind of classification a person who transport beer but do not carry stock of it themselves should have if not retailer. 3) Letter from Thomas Matthews to Elmer Vliet stated Vliet's letter dated May 11 has be referred to him. Regarding the classification of the person, they would be considered a retail dealer if the transaction finishes in Lake Bluff but they would receive no classification if the transaction finishes outside of Lake Bluff as they are not "selling". The letter also goes into detail about taxing malt and vinous beverages that are delivered within village limits. 4) Letter to Charles Hummer, which encloses a rough draft of a suggested revised ordinance on beer. 5) Letter from Charles Hummer to Elmer Vliet stating that he is in receipt of Vliet's letter of March 17th, in which Vliet submits Section 1 of Article XI of the City Charter of Lake Forest, which forbids the making, selling, or keeping for sale of any spiritous or intoxicating liquors anywhere within the corporate township that resides Lake Forest. Hummer asks how this effects Lake Bluff as they are in the same corporate township. 6) Handwritten notes on liquor ordinance.

  19. Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Town and Tennis Club Notes - Meeting of the Board of Directors of the Town and Tennis Club Notes. The Meeting notes are as follows: (1) Reviewed Tournament Committee's schedule, cost of stationery, profit on the Bridge Party, Grounds Committee Request, American Legion Ice Carnival Committee event, motion passed to investigate if people were interested in table tennis (ping pong). (2) Tournament Committee asks for donations, 30 new members for the Club, refusal of permit to play ice hockey on ice skating pond, village elections held on April 15th. (3) Balance is $88.65, donation for a tennis trophy has been received, 75 people attended table tennis tournament, Open house for new members will be held. (4) Proposal for club to sponsor a drama club. (5) Members whose due were in arrears, instruction for tennis should be given to junior members only, a "Dub" Tournament shall be held in May, letter from Lake Forest High School was read stating that members of the Town and Tennis club were using their tennis courts. (6) 9 new junior members and 2 new voting members, 120 junior members fill out questionnaire about tennis instruction, over 50 members played in "Dub" Tournament, Formal Dinner Dance is going to be held, response letter from the chairman of Lake Forest High School over the use of the tennis courts. (7) Treasurer's balance is $97.75, club is participating in the 4th of July Parade, 50 junior members are receiving tennis instruction, purchase of fourth trophy, proposal for club to sponsor a beach party, subject of community center was brought up but postponed for future action. (8) Tournament Dates, Classifications and Entry Fees for Club Members. (9) 40 junior members receiving free tennis instruction, expenses. (10) Bowling Alleys reserved, proposal for club to sponsor bowling, topic was tabled. (11) Balance is $101.80, beach clean up, organization of bowling league, Methodist Church will sponsor bowling league, motion was made and passed to put up a bang board, letters being sent out to prospective members about joining the club. (12) Treasurer balance of $65.14, end of tennis tournament, presenting trophies to winners, By-law draft and revision. (13) Outstanding bills reported by the treasury, by-law amendments, vote on committee chairmen. (14) Treasurer balance of $53.58, motions moved and passed for people to be added to the Membership Committee, Social Committee, Tournament Committee, Publicity Committee, Instruction Committee, and Grounds Committee. (15) Balance of $51.12 but still some bills outstanding, vote on committee chairmen. (16) Balance $54.78, planning of exhibition matches, ice skating instructors are trying to be found, plans for sleigh rides in January.

  21. Personal Notes of Daniel Riley McMaster - 1938 - Personal Notes of Daniel Riley McMaster - 1938 (1) Note Split into two. First: McMaster was telephoned by Orrie McCombs whom asked him to meet for lunch. Second: Upon meeting McCombs for lunch McMasters showed him Ernest Olsen's letter and wanted to get Jacob Crane in town on Saturday or Sunday so he could get the members together. (2) McMaster received a call at his home from McCombs where McMaster told him the result of his interview with Olsen's office and Olsen himself. (3) Note Split into two day. First, Aug 2, 1938: McMaster met McCombs for lunch after which he came to the office and read Olsen's report. McComb then said he would like copies of the letter and report to send to all members of the Plan Commission, including ex-officio member, and the Village Attorney. Second, Aug 3, 1938: McMaster took care of the above as McCombs did not call. After McMaster did some thinking he got together with McCombs and Jenkisson and deliver copies to Mr. Young, Mr. Staines, and Mr. Hummer. (4) Mr. Mueller called and said that learned McMaster received a report from the engineer and would like to receive a copy. (5) Received a call from Mr. Hummer and said he hoped the Plan Commission could meet Monday the 8th. (6) Met Mr. McCombs at lunch and showed him Jacob Crane's letter and he arranged to have notices sent out for the Monday night meeting. (7) McCombs called McMaster at the house and left him papers and a memorandum to be sent to Philip Armour. (8) Delivered a letter to Charles Hummer containing Plat of Green Bay Road Highlands Subdivision.
