7. Gordon Cochrane - Baseball Hall of Famer Gordon Cochrane, nicknamed "Mickey" Cochrane by the public, began his professional career in 1925 signing with the Philadelphia Athletics at age 22. He became the starting catcher and excelled at his abilities, earning him an MVP award in 1928. The Athletics, with Cochrane on their team, won many titles including two World Series. Eventually, Cochrane was sold to the Detroit Tigers, winning them a World Series trophy in 1935 against the Cubs. After a head injury, Cochrane retired from baseball. In 1942, during WW2, Cochrane enrolled in the Great Lake Naval Training Station's health training program. He coached the Navy Station's baseball team and served in the South Pacific. in 1947, he was enshrined in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Cochrane and his family lived on 138 East Sheridan Road until his death in 1962.
