10. Cloes Family - Two Xerox copies of the Lake Bluff Chat, one dated January 14, 1915 announces the death of Ida George Cloes, wife of Ben Cloes. She died of cancer at her home is Los Angeles the previous week. The other article from the Chat is a story by Ben Cloes: "An Old-time Thanksgiving of a Lake Bluff Boy". Ben recalls the family log house that stood on the property of A. K. Stearns (since demolished) and eating a deer their mother had shot near their home. The Stearns property was on Bluff Road, formerly at 605 East Blodgett Avenue SEE ALSO : Memo 1, 2, and 4, Note 7 and Sketch 1 in this Catalog.

15. If a Chimney Falls in a Bluff ... Does it Make a Sound? - The article If a Chimney Falls in a Bluff ... Does it Make a Sound? written by Adrienne Fawcett, tells how a 16-foot brick chimney, fell one night after standing on the Lake Michigan bluff for over 100 years. The chimney belong to the home of A. K. Stearn's, who purchased 7 acres of land from Ben and Ida Cloes in 1905. The article states that in 1948, after Stearns's death, erosion was so bad that his home was very near the bluff. It stood empty for a number of years and was eventually destroyed by fire, except for the chimney. Another house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, was built to the south of the Stearns house, which was also later destroyed. \The property was later subdivided into three lots.

16. Ladies Aid Society, 1889 - A sepia photograph of the Ladies Aid Society. Photo was used as part of the Lake Bluff Camp Meeting Program of 1897. LB historian Elmer Vliet commented on the photograph: "Lawn Party" Note that big black boas seemed to be the "in" thing. This party may well have been as Sarah Wheelers Colonial Inn. She is the buxom lady with broad mutton-legged sleeves, second from left in back row. A lady in center of back row in front of a birch tree and with a fancy hat with an upstanding plum (could it be an egret) is Francis Willard. In the 2nd row, just behind the row sitting on the ground, we see Mrs.Hobbs, the 3rd lady from the right. .. . :this scene was actually taken about 1888 ON REVERSE: Top row, 6th from the right is Frances Willard Top row next to left is Sarah Wheeler Second row down center - light dress - 7th from the right is Laura Fowler Second row down next to Mrs. Fowler is Mrs. Ida (B.J.)
