Youth Day Speech Involving Leopold Grost |
Description |
Seven pages, five typed on yellow paper and two handwritten on gridpaper, outlining a speech prepared by Elmer Vilet about growing up and daily life during the transition era of the Lake Bluff Camp Meeting Association becoming an incorporated village. Leopold Grost (referred to as Leo, Liep, or Lieb) arrived in Lake Bluff in 1896 - a year after the village's incorporation. His memories and stories assisted Elmer in painting the picture of this era. Leopolds father worked in the Cloes Brickyard and his mother worked in the Fowler Hotel as a cook. Elmer uses Leopold's childhood memories in tandem with the history of Lake Bluff. The end of his speech highlights Leopold's milestones. Also land transaction documents. |
