Obituary from Pioneer Press for Frank Townsend. Townsend was born in Vermont in 1917, earning a B.A. in English from Williams College in 1939. He taught at a boys school for two years, before joining the military during World War II. After the war, he returned to school to get his master's degree and Ph.D. While studying, he met his future wife, Lola Fennig. In 1951, Townsend began teaching at Lake Forest High School, where he remained until he retired in 1977. He worked with the College Board to design Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and was a founding member of the Lake Forest Symphony Orchestra, the North Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and the Lake Bluff History Museum.
